Following practical trials of the K9 prototype, Karmin developed modular designs to address a wider range of missions. The K92 and K85 were developed from that platform in two different sizes.
Development of the K85 was completed in 2009. Taiwan Army special forces selected it for amphibious operations and purchased more than 30 boats. The original company description records CR certification and operational use at that time. Related K87 variants were also supplied for naval, military and coast guard roles in Taiwan and other markets.
